Uro-Vaxom ® symposium at the 2nd World Congress on Controversies in Urology (CURy)
Geneva, February 10th, 2009.
The 2nd World Congress on Controversies in Urology (CURy) held in Lisbon (Portugal) from the 5th to the 8th of February 2009 focused this year mainly on the management of urinary tract and prostate cancers. Among all the highly interesting scientific sessions, the satellite symposium organised by OM Pharma on “Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections: Uro-Vaxom ® a New Alternative” chaired by Professors F. Cruz (Hospital São João, Porto, Portugal) and M. Dambros (Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil) on February 6th, 2009, attracted more than 140 urologists and other specialists from all over the world.
Different international opinion leaders highlighted recent data gathered on this immunostimulating drug indicated for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and on other urological topics. Prof. H.W. Bauer (Munich, Germany) evidenced the place of immunotherapy and Uro-Vaxom ® in daily clinical practice while Dr G. Cozma (OM Pharma, Geneva, Switzerland) updated the clinical development plan for this medication. Regarding the guidelines for the management of recurrent UTIs, Prof. K. Naber (Technical University, Munich, Germany) presented the preventive and therapeutic options edited in 2008 by the European Association of Urology, including immunotherapy with Uro-Vaxom ®, as well as the steps to be taken to implement such guidelines into clinical practice. These topics were the subject of intensive interactive controversy discussions with constructive conclusions for effective patient care.
