New launches of Broncho-Vaxom® in Latin America for respiratory tract infections
May 31st, 2007
This month, Broncho-Vaxom® was launched by two OM PHARMA partners, in Argentina by Laboratorios Casasco (www.casasco.com), leader of the class of immunostimulating drugs and in Brazil, under the name of Paxoral®, by Laboratorio Americano de Farmacoterapia S.A. Farmasa (www.farmasa.com.br).
Broncho-Vaxom® could be a valuable therapeutic contribution in these countries where respiratory diseases affect all ages and cause a substantial health and socioeconomic burden as in all over the world. For instance in Brazil, data from 2006 reveal that 5 million people aged over 40 years suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), 15 million from asthma and 20 million from allergic rhinitis. The total of these figures indicates that about 1 out of 10 Brazilians is affected by chronic respiratory diseases. Moreover their cost is very high as in the case of asthma, health-related annual expenses for one patient with severe asthma amount to US$ 807 for the family and to US$ 750 for the Public Health System. This corresponds to one third of the median total family income per year in Brazil.
